Can glass be permanently damaged?

Believe it or not, glass is a very porous material. If you have hard water, all those water minerals over time can seep inside and etch the surface of the glass. Even if your water is not hard, soap scum can have the same effect. If your glass has not been permanently etched, Scum Scrubbers has the ability to restore the glass and apply a sealant that helps fill these pours in.

What can I expect after a Shower Enclosure servicing?

Every servicing is different, just like every shower enclosure. Your needs will be dependent on your specific situation. Whether it is a sliding, swinging, or fixed enclosure, our technicians will assess exactly what may be necessary to get you back to showering in a beautiful, clean, and safe environment.

Will my Shower Door need servicing down the road?

Shower enclosures have a life expectancy; however, our job is to extend that life expectancy and prevent you from having to purchase a brand-new enclosure. With that being said, your enclosure “might” need a servicing down the road. Swinging doors utilize t-stripping on the edges of the door to help seal them to an adjacent wall or panel. This stripping does not last forever and depending on operation, water quality, cleaning products used, etc., they may need replacement down the road. Both swinging and sliding doors may also need slight adjustments and calibrations down the road as well. These adjustments/calibrations help maintain safe and sealed operation. A lot of this will depend on how the original installation was performed. Scum Scrubbers offers Quarterly, Bi-yearly, and Yearly service packages to give you one less thing to worry about.

Recommended cleaning products?

It is important that yourself or a cleaning service uses the proper products on your glass enclosure. We recommend ammonia free cleaning products for daily/weekly cleaning. We also highly recommend the use of a squeegee right after you are finished showering so that the majority of water is removed from the glass surface, preventing it from starting to make its way into the pours of the glass.

If my glass is heavily stained, will there be swirls or scratches after the restoration process?

This will all depend on how stained your current glass is, as well as how it was cared for prior. Scum scrubbers may be able to get the majority of hard water stains out but may also reveal some swirling or light scratches. There are instances where the glass has had so much hard water staining over the years that we may not be able to restore your glass as best as we would like to.

What is the best way to upkeep my shower enclosure after servicing?

Squeegee, Squeegee, Squeegee! We know how much of a pain using a squeegee can be after your shower, but it is by far the best way to prevent future hardwater stains and keep your glass looking its very best. When opening and closing a swinging frameless shower enclosure, we always recommend continuing your swinging motion past your threshold to help reduce friction on your t-stripping. This will allow you to open and close your door with ease and minimize the need for replacement stripping sooner than expected. Also, utilize a cleaning product with no ammonia such as Sprayway glass cleaner.

How long does an enclosure servicing/repair take?

This is all dependent on the servicing or restoration that is needed. A simple t-stripping replacement and adjustment can take as little as 30 minutes. However, a more involved glass restoration and moldy silicone replacement can take closer to 2-3 hours.

Is there a wait period after servicing has performed?

In a short answer, yes. If we are doing an adjustment/calibration and t-stripping repair, we recommend a 72 hour wait period before your enclosure sees any type of moisture. This allows the stripping to bond to the edges of your glass properly. If we are removing and replacing moldy silicone, we recommend a full 24 hours to allow the silicone sealant to fully cure. If we are just doing a glass restoration, there would be no wait time after we are completed and can be used immediately after if needed.
